I consider it the epitome of folly to pay even the slightest adherence to the long ago uttered words of ignorant men. To be interested in the anthropological sense may be of some worth, but to allow oneself to be compelled to follow contracts written by hands which, to all intents and purposes may as well have been those of an extra terrestrial intelligence (or a small collection of baboons), is nothing short of intellectual suicide.
The concepts contained within this document are so weak as to crumble under the most minimal of examination. There can be no such thing as a "Maori" people, likewise there can be no such things as "White", "Aryan", "Jewish", "Indigenous", "Siberian", "Palestinian", or "Whatthef*ckian" people ... accept it, get on with it, move on! These are figments of the more pitiful and dangerous sides of our imaginations. Every human is multifaceted and unique (even identical twins). Unique and multifaceted things do not fit exactly into prissy little sets or boxes as do colored beads, odd, even, or prime numbers and it is insulting to suggest that they ought to. You cannot pinpoint a persons characteristics, needs, wants, or desires by the size of their nose any more than by the birthplaces of their ancestors! The only way to find out these things is simply to talk with them.
Of course foolish people have been trying to do this "human sorting" for centuries, with exclusively disastrous results. Nazi germany was based on the concept of an "indigenous" people, who were being infiltrated and colonized by an alien and "lowly" subspecies. People even tried to devise mechanisms by which these "colonists" could be identified via measurements of facial features. We all know the result of this "Nationalistic" stirring...
Then some years later we saw the results of yet another mindless attempt at human categorization. Thousands of people whom our western powers strategically decided to categorize as "Jewish" were plonked onto a strip of economically well placed land, with the justification coming from another highly dubious and superstitious document of indeterminate vintage which proclaimed (according to the word of a decidedly indeterminate fellow named "God") that the land belonged to a particular "people" known also as "Jewish". Result? More killings, violence and ongoing war.
We may perhaps yet see a third act in this chain of senseless categorizations where "Palestinians" grab back possession of a scrap of their "stolen" land, and proceed to maraud a bunch of those nasty "jewish" colonizers (who in the mean time have become a new generation which knows little about the killings their ancestors were party to). It's like a verse in the Roger Waters song "perfect sense"

Come on Humanity!! Get a grip on yourself, get control of the chimpanzee part of your brain! We're all where we are because some hairy beast muscled his way in there at some point in distant history. We can't redress all these "wrongs done" (which were really no more "wrong" than an engine is "wrong" for conking out). We achieve nothing lashing out at the perpetrators descendants or categorizing and favoring the victims great grandchildren! Would we thrash our pet dog if we discovered his grandfather or grandmother was guilty of eating the neighbors cat's great uncle Mitzy? Would we give the little Motzy numerous compensations and special treatment over his other kitten friends and playmates? (whose ancestors must have also suffered other kinds of injustice or cruelty, such is the world and such is the nature of atoms and life.).
These categorizations are Constructs which serve our powers and keep us under their heel, that's why they fall into place. They are nothing else. It's Chomsky's "trickle down" theory, ideas which the tests of time prove to be advantageous to corporate power slip into the cogs and remain (with numerous "pats on the back"), while ideas which are antagonistic or threaten the system are slowly weeded out and burnt via numerous points of interest which make up the vast web of the corporate and political establishment, it's not a conspiracy, it's just the law of time and pressure. Categorizations do not serve human happiness in any conceivable way. They keep us ignorant, rooted, violent, confused, ready to kill and ready to obey, they deceive us and offer us false hope, false belonging, and false security.
The term "globalization" is deceptive. What we really mean is "global-segregation" or "global-exploitation". Whole continents are bordered off and impoverished so as to insure the continual availability of cheap resources and manpower to the wealthy 10 percent of the worlds 6 billion who will then consume the rubbish in their guarded fortresses and build nice luxury playgrounds for their rulers. This system only works because of the existence of borders and nations, and people only tolerate and support the existence of borders and nations because they have grown to internalize the concepts of "ethnicity", "race" (or whatever you want to call it) after their long and arduous indoctrination and education into the warped and twisted society they live in.
There can be no questioning the fact that this "global-segregation" is limiting our future here on earth by churning the planet into toxic waste and poverty, the results are self-evident. But in order to put a stop to it we must use our intelligence to unearth all it's dreadful roots and cut them into pieces for once and for all, we must keep our efforts at the highest intellectual level in order to avoid yet another foolish downwards spiral towards reactionism, hatred and racism. True education (not indoctrination or superstition) and true undogmatic science and common sense must be the foundations of our movement towards a saner world. And most importantly of all, that which must bind us together as a common humanity, can only be the kind of universal, non-conditional and gentle love which is a love for all humanity, regardless of skin color, nose shape, or ancestry. We must aim towards (albeit a distant goal) a world where all human beings are born with the equal right to migrate to and live in the place (or Island) of their choice and to mix with and share experiences with those whom they choose, a world where nobody is classified, restricted or privileged according to foolish abstract classifications. A world where nobody is penned in or penned out by government, state, corporation, global bank or trade agreement.
Likewise we cannot allow any government to support any group of people who wish to box themselves onto any little piece of land and proclaim "this is our land, our ancestors were here first, f#ck off all yee else!". New Zealand, or any other land does not belong to any "people" or person. It belongs to nobody, and so, all those who choose to live there (as I and my girlfriend now have), must have equal rights to live and work together to make it a community worth living in!
If we decide to grant people the right of absolute sovereignty, or complete access to lands and waters, then to avoid the "downwards spiral" we must grant these rights to ALL people, not only those we classify as being of the "Maori" people, regardless of whether a bunch of ignoramie in 1840 promised (on our behalf) that we'd do this! (If it we're found that a distant drunken ancestor signed a document in a court of law promising that his great grandchildren and their friends were to drink a pint of goats urine daily, would we compel those concerned to do it?). If we assign rights according to ancestry, we are creating our own "mini-globalization" (mini-segregation) in New Zealand, which completely contradicts with our "anti-globalization" (anti-segregation) stance globally. If we believe in the abolition of corporate (international) segregation as well as internal (ie Israel or apartheid South Africa) segregation, then we must ban it within our own shores as well!
I feel that supporting the Treaty of Waitangi subtracts from the vitally important "grass-roots globalization" movement by paying lip service to outmoded concepts such as tribalism or ethnicity. I agree that people who came from Europe have greatly harmed New Zealand environmentally and socially, but these outrages must be seen as outrages in their own right, not as breaches of an ancient contract by an inherently "evil" "ethnicity", but as the results of simple human folly, something which any of us could repeat should we get into the rusty habit of not thinking for ourselves. If we are to avoid the mistakes of our ancestors we must learn from them and make decisions based freely upon our own ideas and conclusions, not hankered by respect for a past which we will surely surpass. We can make New Zealand (and the world) a happy and free community, but we will do this much better from our own heads than from acknowledging the authority of old texts. Let's fight poverty and the horrors of stupidity and rampant consumerism... not each other!

why should we all be the same?
you are suggesting that we ignore reality and ignore past injustices on the grounds that everyone should be the same.
To use your examples
Palestinians were driven off their land, and now they are refugees with a wrecked economy and they are suffering. palestinians are rightly pissed off about this, but you are suggestign that they should forget they are palestinian and forget the injustice that they have suffered. Do you think that would make their very real problems go away?
the same with maori.
The treaty says that pakeha are welcome to come and live here as long as they dont piss off maori people by stealing their land etc. Unfortunately the Crown and some pakeha did steal land and create injustice. If you are a pakeha living in Aotearoa then it is your duty to try and correct this injustice by saying that the crown does not speak/act for you.
If you instead argue that the treaty is irrelevent and has no place in NZ then you are in fact supporting and continuing the injustice. Pretending that the injustice is not real doesnt make it go away

The Treaty has been broken so many times so many ways, it is time to return to the Kaitake ways, 2 Wrongs don't make a right, the past must be repaired and not in constant delay tactics so typical of the Crown of England.
I would much rather not live under anyone's rule, but far prefer Maori over Pom.

I wrote a whole heap but obviously failed to get the main idea across. I don't believe everybody ought to be the same, far from it (Indeed I believe it one of the greatest tragedies of corporatization that we see a "uniformizing" of human life across the planet, ie "friends" and coca cola from Shanghai to London).
I believe we ought to celebrate our diversities and work towards a point where we are unhindered (both nationally and globally) in sharing, communicating, and learning from one other. I am convinced that racial tensions (and of course physical borders) are the greatest impediments to achieving this kind of sharing, and I am also convinced that these racial tensions are for the most part caused and perpetrated by the racial categorizations, rejectionist actions, and propagandas of governments/corporations. The true diversity of human life will never be appreciated or discovered so long as we are taught, raised, and further hammered with rejectionist policy to believe that the whole of human diversity can be simplified into an "us" and a "them". Telling our school children that there are "Maori" and there are "Pakeha" hasn't a thing to do with appreciating human diversity, it is the most insulting rubbish that could be concocted. Likewise, acknowledging a document which is built upon the pathetic premise that humans in New Zealand can be sorted into these two groups is equally outrageous.
Here are four ways which I believe could successfully lead to a society where human diversity was both appreciated and unhindered, and where racial tensions would begin to dissipate for want of fresh envy and hatred to nourish them. Firstly all categorizations and subsequent discriminations (both positive and negative) must be abolished (and all treaties or pacts which base themselves on human categorization must be put away into the museums where they belong). Secondly, education must be democratized, and compulsory national curriculums and examinations must be scrapped. Meaning all schools must demonstrate that they operate in a democratic fashion, where children and adult staff each have equal vote concerning non-administrative decisions (curriculum, school rules, lessons etc).

Thirdly, economics must be decentralized (that is to say centralized production and corporations must be hindered and tariffed to the point where they become unprofitable and so phase themselves out). Local production and ecologically sound small business would then offer meaningful work and products, and because of it's local control, would not dissolve or "consume" local diversity and unique community character. (No doubt a certain degree of land redistribution would be necessary here). Fourthly, poverty and environmental degradation must be both completely eliminated.
Ok, let's imagine putting these ideas into action for say New Zealand and Israel/Palestine (ultimately globally of course).
I honestly believe we'd see some great changes for the better!
The Israeli government is feeding racial tension by denying those whom it considers "palestinians" opportunities and rights which it's own so called "Jewish" citizens take for granted (not to mention bulldozing "palestinians" while inside their houses). Now I'm not saying that these people ought to just forget these horrors and keep quiet. What I am suggesting is that these behaviors ought to be stopped immediately, and that an end to all discriminations (and an implementation of ideas like those above) will eventually lead to a society which can forgive past injustices. If these things are not done, then we will continue seeing stones being thrown at Israelis (it's just one plus one).
I remember an article on znet where somebody joked "there are 3 ways to solve the Israel/Palestine problem, 1. Total integration, 2. A fully independent Palestine state, 3. Shoot all Palestinians!". Well I tend to go with the first idea there.
And it's not too dissimilar for New Zealand. If we can turn back the tide of all the filthy corporate damage done to these Islands and nourish them into happy communities where everyone can prosper, realize their potentials, and live their own unique and meaningful lives, then where is the hatred and the racism going to grow from? Such a society will never come into being via positive/negative discrimination or the honoring of the Treaty of Waitangi, these things are just sticky plasters which fester an even nastier wound underneath - namely the growing hatred which rises because the whole society is rotten to it's very core. I know this because I've felt this hatred growing in myself during my weaker moments, I've seen it in my friends and I've seen it over and over again on the streets.
We'll only ever heal the damage done when we really look at all the ugly foundations of this putrid society we've built, rip em out completely, and get something entirely different and better started!

I don't know your exact definitions of "socially constructed ideas of race" or "geneological relationship grouping" as you don't explain them in your post, but my strongest suspicions suggest to me that they are equally groundless and highly confused concepts.
If one of the above mentioned "ballparks" is "designed" to "include", then does it not simply render itself obsolete? (ie, if everyone is "included", then what to goodness is the point of having people officially grouped into races/groups?).
If anyone reads my posts they will see that what I am critiquing is the act of official/state recognition/classification of human beings into ethnic groups/races. I maintain that any grouping of humans can only be an arbitrary and imagined thing (with no real existence), and as such, ought to be left an arbitrary and imagined thing! Any political endeavor to lend existence to these foolish notions (whether in striving to create an "ethnic state" such as Israel or Nazi Germany, or by creating or acknowledging a racial treaty) is hatching an atrocious birdsnest of exclusions and disarray, which (though perhaps of political and corporate benefit) will lead to a widespread intensification of the dangerous internalization that human beings fit into these deriding little "races" or groups, and the consequential hatred and violence which goes with such notions of "race".
The statement "Maori were never or have ever said they were a race... " suggests a contradictory kind of acceptance of this witless internalization! How indeed can "Maori" say anything whatsoever if "they" do not exist?, even if only to say that they (an ethnic "group" or "race") do not exist! (Only an individual has a voice box or a pen/keyboard, and so only an individual can "say" anything!). I remember a part of a film I saw or something where the advice "be specific, be specific, be specific" was given. I think this is a good idea, you've got to define exactly who said exactly what, and precisely what you mean.
As to the link you posted. I fail to see why you think the people on this site would be appreciative of these ideas? I didn't spend much time there, but as the website is titled "Stormfront White Nationalist Community", I really don't get the feeling people there are going to be too appreciative and break out the popcorn at being told that everything they believe they are and the "race" they believe they belong to, is in actuality a figment of their foolish imaginations and a corporitically constructed propaganda internalization!
But I imagine you're being ironic here right?
